The roles assumed by Troubled Times members are voluntary, with a member offering to assume a role or agreeing to do so if approached by other members. Members are not pressed into service, nor directed, nor managed. Coordination of activities can and does occur, but this is on a peer basis, functioning cooperatively. In the peer relationships within Troubled Times only competence and commitment count, not the individual member's country of origin, race, class, sex, or religion. Should a member fail to deliver a product or service they volunteered to provide or do, any other member may step in to deliver this product or service without apology. Competing contributions or solution sets are acceptable. Time is of the essence, and service to the public is more important than any member egos.
